Most companies hire legal help reactively, after the cease and desist is already late, after the affiliate fraud has run for a week, after the NDA that should have protected them did not hold up. We are done with that model. At $50M revenue scaling to 4 launches per year, with active IP theft happening in real time, TUB needs a legal mind inside the building, not on a slow retainer. This role is different from a typical in-house counsel position because speed and decisiveness are as important as legal precision. You will not wait for approval chains. You will act. If you thrive as a department of one, move fast under pressure, and care about protecting something worth protecting, keep reading.
Here’s how the job qualifications align with your profile.

The Uncommon Business is the world's fastest-growing AI-first education company, teaching business leaders to architect intelligent systems, not just prompt tools. We don't do busywork, legacy thinking, or 80-hour founder weeks. We build companies where AI handles the repeatable, humans drive the irreplaceable, and leaders scale without burning out. We're profitable, EOS-driven, and operate in championship-level surge cycles. You'll be promoted on impact and ownership — not tenure. High performers thrive here. Passengers don't last.
You might have:
Owned the full legal response to an active affiliate fraud operation during a live launch window, issuing cease and desist letters within hours and shutting it down before it impacted $500K+ in launch revenue.
Led a full audit of TUB's NDA and IP assignment framework, identifying three enforcement gaps and delivering revised, jurisdiction-tested agreements across all employment types within 30 days.
Built and deployed a contract intake and turnaround system that reduced average contract review time from 10 days to 48 hours across vendor, affiliate, and partner agreements.
Advised on and documented IP assignment language for all new offer letters, closing a critical protection gap as TUB scaled its team of specialized content creators and program architects.
Served as the sole legal point of contact across four launch cycles, managing copyright disputes, affiliate agreements, employment compliance questions, and entity structure decisions without outside counsel delay.
We value ownership over task lists. Here's where you'll lead:
IP Protection and Enforcement. You own TUB's intellectual property defense end to end, from monitoring copyright violations and affiliate fraud to issuing cease and desist letters with same-day turnaround during active launch windows. At 4 launches per year with a product this good, speed is the difference between containment and a crisis.
Contract Drafting and Management. You draft, review, and negotiate all commercial agreements including vendor contracts, affiliate agreements, partnership deals, and client terms. You build the systems that make contract review fast, consistent, and scalable across a growing team.
Employment Law and People Protection. You advise on employment matters across TUB's distributed workforce spanning the US (multi-state), Canada, UK, Colombia, and the Philippines. You ensure NDA enforceability, IP assignment in offer letters, and that the company's people infrastructure holds up as we scale.
Legal Infrastructure and Risk Management. You build the legal backbone TUB needs to scale without surprises: policy development, compliance calendaring, entity structure guidance, and proactive identification of exposure before it becomes expensive. You are the early warning system, not just the cleanup crew.
Launch Legal Support. You are a non-negotiable presence during launch windows, providing real-time legal guidance, rapid response to affiliate and copyright violations, and cross-functional support when speed and accuracy both matter.
We hire humans, not checklists, but success here requires:
You hold at minimum an active Minnesota bar license and have 5-10 years of experience in IP, employment law, and commercial contracts, ideally inside a digital product, online education, or content-driven business.
You have operated as a legal department of one before, built systems under pressure, and know what it means to be the person who gets the Friday afternoon call and handles it.
You think in risk and outcomes, not just legal correctness. You communicate clearly to non-lawyers, flag exposure early, and give recommendations, not just options.
You thrive in fast-scaling, high-accountability environments where the pace is intentional and the work actually matters. Launch season intensity does not rattle you. It focuses you.
You default to building systems and documentation that outlast your involvement, so the legal function scales with the company and does not depend on you being in the room.
You own these key metrics:
IP Response Time: Cease and desist letters issued within 24 hours of a verified violation during any active launch window, with full documentation and follow-through to resolution.
Contract Turnaround: 100% of standard contracts reviewed and returned within 48 hours, with a repeatable intake system built within the first 60 days.
Legal Infrastructure: NDA revised, IP assignment language added to all new offer letters, and a full contract audit completed with a prioritized fix list, all within the first 90 days.
Compliance Coverage: Zero compliance gaps across all active employment jurisdictions (US multi-state, Canada, UK, Colombia, Philippines) at any point during your tenure.
Launch Support: Legal escalations during launch windows resolved same-day with zero unresolved issues carrying into the next business day.
Launch Season Expectations:
Our launch seasons are intentionally high-intensity and fast-paced to drive transformation for our clients and our team. Four times per year, team members in launch-critical roles are expected to be available from 7 AM to 7 PM, with additional hours often required for preparation, execution, live event support, and post-launch debriefs.
This pace is not for everyone, and that's okay. We set this expectation clearly so that only those who thrive in high-accountability, high-impact environments choose to be here. In return, you'll be part of a team that moves fast, solves real problems, and builds meaningful outcomes. Outside launch seasons, workload is sustainable and strategic, focused on building the legal infrastructure that makes the next launch even stronger.
